Intermountain Moms

As a first time mom-to-be, I have spent much of my free time this summer reading up on pregnancy, labor and delivery, and child care and development.  I’ve pored over several books and receive weekly e-newsletters  from three different pregnancy websites.  I’m also lucky enough to have a desk at United Way near the coordinators of  the Welcome Baby and Help Me Grow programs so I can eavesdrop on their conversations about child development.  There is a wealth of information out there, but still with all that I’ve read, I’ve found myself wanting more expert advice and knowledge.  Last week, I happened upon another local resource– the Intermountain Moms Facebook application.

The Intermountain Moms application was “built to connect mothers and families with information and a community of support.”  What I love about this great resource is the Video Library.  It contains over 50 video clips of local doctors addressing common questions asked by expecting mothers.  The videos are each around 2 minutes in length and range in topics from “What are options to manage labor pain?” to “How do I breast-feed my newborn?”.  Although the information is not very in depth, there is something reassuring about hearing the advice and perspectives of doctors associated with the hospital I will be delivering at.

Working at United Way, I am reminded everyday of the great resources we have right here in our community that can help individuals to better their health, education, and income.  Intermountain Moms is just one of those resources that helps new moms prepare for a healthy life with baby.  What other resources in Utah County have been helpful to you in preparing for a new phase of life?
