Did you know that…

  • Utah County has the highest birth rate in the nation. There are about 11,000 births per year in Utah County! That’s an average of 31births per day! (Utah Office of Vital Records and Statistics, July 2005). Over 3,000 are first time parents.
  • Many of these babies are born to first-time parents who are in need of support, information and resources.
  • Utah County has a unique home visitation program, Welcome Baby, which is designed specifically for these families.

  • What is Welcome Baby?

Welcome Baby is a free community service offered by United Way of Utah County and the Utah County Health Department. The purpose of Welcome Baby is to provide support and information to first-time parents to help them enjoy a healthy beginning with their child. Trained volunteers visit the families each month to relay information from the Utah County Health Department, including infant development, health and safety issues and community resources. The home visitors focus on the parents’ strengths and cater the visits to their specific interests and concerns.

How can parents benefit from Welcome Baby?

Parents will receive information each month about their infant’s development at that stage. They will be taught what to expect and ways to help stimulate and encourage healthy development. They will also learn about community resources such as workshops, classes, playgroups, etc. The advantages of this program are far beyond what parenting books and friendly advice can give. Welcome Baby establishes the connection to community support that parents need to raise children in today’s challenging world.

If you are a parent interested in receiving home visits from Welcome Baby, go to families to see more information and to enroll.
