More than 85 women gathered at the SCERA in Orem to enjoy the “In Her Shoes” luncheon and gain insights into raising charitable children earlier this month.
Carol Weisman, internationally recognized expert on philanthropy, delighted the audience with her experiences in teaching children to be philanthropic at an early age.
Several members of United Way of Utah County’s Women in Philanthropy hosted Weisman during her visit to Provo and the surrounding area, giving her insights into the culture of Utah Valley. At the luncheon, Weisman told the audience she had never spoken to a group that needed her message less than this one.
Weisman encouraged the audience to tell their children all the ways they contribute to the community, whether it be through payroll deductions at work or making other financial donations children are generally unaware of.
“Taking children along when you serve in the community is one of the best ways to nurture that desire in your children,” she said.
Weisman suggested helping your child give to a cause that matters to them by first discovering their fears and concerns about their community or who they know.
Each woman who attended the luncheon received a copy of Weisman’s book, Raising Charitable Children, donated by Cynthia Gambill, owner of Remedez.
Mary Crafts, owner of Culinary Crafts, donated the delectable lunch. Thank you to these two instrumental members of United Way of Utah County Women in Philanthropy.
