1. What does the Utah County Crisis Line do?
The Crisis Line offers 24-hour help to any individual facing any crisis. By listening carefully, the Crisis Line empathizes and appropriately directs callers to those who can provide long-term solutions.
2. What does the Crisis Line NOT do?
The Crisis Line does not provide professional therapy.
3. Does it cost any money to call the Crisis Line?
The service provided by the Crisis Line is completely free. Individuals may call as many times as needed. No charge will be applied.
4. What kinds of crisis does the Crisis Line deal with?
The Crisis Line is an independent organization without any affiliation to a particular hospital or group. For that reason, the Crisis Line is able listen and help with any type of crisis problem. But the Crisis Line does not provide professional therapy.
5. Are any of the calls recorded?
None of the calls are audio recorded in any way or for any purpose. The calls are kept strictly confidential.
6. Where is the Crisis Line located?
The Crisis Line is located in Orem. The specific location is kept confidential to protect callers and volunteers.
7. Can I call the Crisis Line on behalf of a friend or relative who faces a crisis?
The Crisis Line encourages friends and relatives of those facing a crisis to call. The Crisis Line has referral numbers to freely give.
9. Will the Crisis Line offer me counsel on how to help a friend or relative?
The Crisis Line will help the caller generate options to help and provide referral numbers for long-term solutions. But the Crisis Line does not offer therapy or professional counseling.
How to Volunteer
10. How do I volunteer with the crisis line?
Ask to speak to a co-director of the Crisis Line by calling (801) 226-4433.
11. What kind of commitment is required of a volunteer?
Volunteers make a four-month commitment to the Crisis Line. In those four months, the volunteer will work a three-hour shift each week and an overnight shift once a month. Directors at the Crisis Line are sensitive to volunteers’ schedules and will work to accommodate their needs.
12. Do I need to complete any training to be a volunteer?
No previous training is required to serve at the Crisis Line. Training is provided by the Crisis Line through two sessions. First, volunteers attend a three-hour training offered the first few Saturdays of a semester. Second, volunteers shadow another volunteer and gain hands-on experience.
